Just 10 minutes away across the Chattahoochee River is one of Atlanta’s largest, most popular and affluent suburbs. East Cobb is bounded by Cherokee county to the north, Fulton County to the northeast, Marietta city limits to the west with I-285 with the Cumberland/Galleria edge city at its southern tip. A small piece of unincorporated land near Atlanta in its extreme southern tip is also near downtown Vinings. A portion of its northwest area is in an unincorporated area near Kennesaw.
Not unlike other Atlanta metro suburbs, East Cobb offers a wide array of living options. From spectacular 5 million dollar mansions with a lavishly designed pool and 6 car garage to a charming 2 bedroom townhome in Vinings for 200K to a beautifully restored turn-of-the-century 3 bedroom brick ranch in the heart of Marietta’s historic district from the mid 300’s. (Marietta is Cobb’s county seat and had settlers as early as the 1820’s.)
For many Atlantans, only Cobb County will do. Close to the city limits, but a truly unique entity unto itself, Cobb has great people, neighborhoods and schools. If not attending one of Cobb County’s more than 30 private schools, K-12 students attend top notch Cobb County Public Schools, the 2nd largest district in Georgia. CCPS graduates outperform most of all other GA high school graduates at Georgia’s colleges. Kennesaw State University, northwest Georgia’s major university is also located in Cobb County.
Cobb County also happens to offer some of the best outdoor recreational opportunities in Atlanta metro let alone the southeastern U.S. Families flock to Lake Allatoona near Acworth for boating, swimming, camping and other year-round fun. The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area and the Silver Comet Trail are both a haven for runners and cyclists. The Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is home to the last significant victory for the South during their defense of Atlanta in 1864. Centered around the namesake mountain, which rises to 1808 feet (551 meters), the park features over 16 miles (26 kilometers) of mapped trails as well as a museum commemorating the historic battle. Picnic sites, battlefield markers and monuments are peppered throughout the forested mountainside, which features great views of Atlanta in clear weather. Two other popular national attractions are here in Cobb too: Six Flags over Georgia in Austell and Six Flags Over White Water in Marietta.
