In the early 1900’s, Brookhaven was a sleepy summer cottage retreat from downtown Atlanta. Today, it’s a hidden treasure tucked away like a secret garden literally in the midst of everything. After all, just a few minutes north is Buckhead, Atlanta’s renowned, skycraping, uptown district. What this means is that Brookhaven’s residents enjoy the best of both worlds – old and new: be it a modern loft in a mixed use infill development in Brookhaven Village (low 200’s) or a charming, vintage 7 bedroom Tutor ($3 million) in historic Brookhaven.
This growing unincorporated area located in DeKalb County, GA Is easily accessible to metro Atlanta via rapid transit at the MARTA station. Or for many, in a luxury sedan of choice winding down Atlanta’s glitzy Peachtree Road. To the west, is where you’ll find Sandy Springs, to the north is I-285, to the northeast is Chamblee and to the south, Atlanta’s city limits. But it’s here, in Brookhaven, where many young people and families choose to lay roots. For a better cost of living, Brookhaven avails itself humbly, but with close proximity to Buckhead’s unrivaled career opportunities, shopping, entertainment, outdoor recreation and night life.
Brookhaven is also known for its landmarks such as the Capital City Club and Oglethorpe University, home of the Georgia Summer Shakespeare Festival. Both establishments find themselves on the National Register of Historic Places. And yet, everything old is new again here with an influx of modern development, including infill housing in the Ashford Park, Brittany, and Lynwood Park neighborhoods. The Sembler Company recently began construction of a 400 million dollar state of the art mixed-use development Brookhaven Place, on Peachtree Road, north of Lenox Square Mall and adjacent to Oglethorpe University. In addition, a new strip of retail space and residential housing is being constructed on Dresden Drive. There’s also a new residential development along Ashford-Dunwoody Road, next to Blackburn Park and Tennis Center, on the site of a former public housing complex. Brookhaven’s K-12 students have choices to. They may attend DeKalb County Public Schools or private schools such as Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School, St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal School and the Marist School, a Catholic school located on Ashford Dunwoody Road.
